The Ride

Gravel, Vermont Style

Vermont is one of the best places in the world to ride gravel. With more than 8,500 miles of dirt backroads and another 1,700 miles of rugged Class 4 tracks, you can roll through valleys, climb into the hills, and discover places few visitors ever see.

At Ramble & Roam, the ride isn’t about racing or racking up miles—it’s about experiencing Vermont from the saddle. Every route is handpicked for its scenery, character, and flow, whether you’ve got a few hours or a few days to explore.

What to Expect

Half-Day Tours
Perfect for visitors or locals who want a taste of Vermont gravel. Expect 2–3 hours of riding on quiet backroads, apple orchards, and rolling hills—with plenty of time left in your day.
Full-Day Tours
A deeper dive into the Green Mountains and Champlain Valley. Around 5–6 hours of riding, with a relaxed pace, scenic stops, and a hearty meal along the way.
Overnight Escapes
Ride by day, relax by night. These trips pair rewarding gravel with a stay at a welcoming inn, complete with good food and good company.
Multi-Day Journeys
Inn-to-inn adventures linking Vermont’s wild places, small towns, and backroads. These trips invite you to slow down, immerse, and discover the rhythm of the land.

The Roads We Ride

Class 3 Roads
These are Vermont’s signature dirt roads—maintained, smooth, scenic, and made for cruising. Most of our miles are on these gems.

Class 4 Roads
The wild side. Unmaintained and rugged—old wagon routes, farm lanes, or forest doubletrack. We sprinkle in short sections of Class 4 for a taste of adventure, always chosen to be rideable and fun, not punishing.

The Riding Style

  • Gravel-First: Most routes are 60–80% dirt.
  • Loop or Point-to-Point: Depending on your trip, we’ll either start and finish in one place or move inn-to-inn.
  • Choose Your Adventure: From short rambles to multi-day epics, the ride is always curated to match the group and the season.
  • It’s About Experience, Not Speed: We ride for connection, scenery, and discovery. You’ll sweat, smile, and maybe get a little muddy—but it’s never a race.

Bikes & Gear

  • Gravel Bikes Recommended: 38–50c tires work best. Tubeless preferred.
  • E-Bikes Welcome: Class 1 e-gravel bikes are supported on half- and full-day rides.
  • Bring the Basics: Snacks, layers, and a flat kit. We’ll take care of the rest.

Who It’s For

If you want to see Vermont beyond the pavement—to ride through farms, forests, ridgelines, and villages—this is for you.

You don’t need to be an endurance athlete. You just need a love of bikes, an openness to adventure, and a willingness to ride at your own pace.

From curious first-timers to seasoned gravel grinders, Ramble & Roam is built to make Vermont’s roads accessible, unforgettable, and fun.
